What is Caremaps-Ai?
Caremaps-Ai is a unique system developed at Care Fertility for selecting which embryo to transfer based on its detailed developmental patterns and the time it reached certain milestones, from fertilisation assessment.
Caremaps-AI is an award winning embryo selection tool developed in-house by Care Fertility scientists. It uses time-lapse imaging and artificial intelligence (AI) to help our embryologists choose the embryo with the best chance of leading to a live birth.
How does it work?We place your embryos in an EmbryoScope™, a specialist incubator with a built-in camera that photographs each embryo every ten minutes. This builds a detailed picture of its development, from fertilisation through to the blastocyst stage, without ever needing to remove it for a manual check.
Caremaps-AI then analyses this time-lapse data and ranks each embryo from one to ten, based on its potential to implant and result in a live birth. Some differences in embryo quality aren't visible under a microscope, so this gives our embryology team a second, data-backed perspective alongside their own expertise. Caremaps-AI supports our embryologists' judgement; it doesn't replace it, and it doesn't change your embryos in any way.
What's the evidence behind it?Caremaps-AI was developed over more than a decade and trained on data from over 60,000 embryos. Our research shows it improves embryo selection compared to traditional methods alone, particularly when you have several embryos to choose from.
What do I receive if I use it?If your treatment includes Caremaps-AI, you'll receive a personal video of the embryo selected for transfer, showing its development from fertilisation to the blastocyst stage. Many patients tell us it's a meaningful keepsake from their journey.
What does it cost?Caremaps-AI costs will depend on your treatment package. It can be added as a standalone addition to treatment or included as part of several of our Access Fertility payment programmes.
Is it a recognised add-on?The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) lists time-lapse imaging, the technology behind Caremaps-AI, as an optional treatment add-on. It isn't currently HFEA-rated green, though the HFEA recognises that time-lapse monitoring may offer benefits for some patients. We believe it adds valuable insight when used alongside our embryologists' expert judgement.

Frequently asked questions
What is Caremaps-AI?
It's an AI-powered embryo selection tool, developed by Care Fertility, that ranks embryos by their potential to lead to a live birth.
How does Caremaps-AI select embryos?
It uses time-lapse images taken every ten minutes inside the EmbryoScope™, then ranks each embryo from one to ten based on its developmental pattern.
Does Caremaps-AI replace the embryologist's decision?
No. It supports our embryology team with additional data; the final decision is always made with expert clinical judgement.
