Heterosexual couples

You will want to find out all you can about fertility issues and what can help. Many treatment options are available, some simple and some designed to help with more complex fertility issues.

We support and advise you on the best fertility treatment approach based on your individual circumstances. We will design a tailored treatment plan based on the results of the tests we think are most suitable for you when we have a complete picture of your fertility history.

When you're starting out

Starting out can feel a little overwhelming, and one of your key steps is learning what you can about your clinic, the team, costs of treatment, how to prepare and the treatment process. There are many ways you can get the information you need:

Attend a fertility information event: Care Fertility regularly runs virtual information events, our team will present on treatment options and other essential information, and will answer your questions.

Read patent stories: it can really help to read about other people’s fertility journeys.

Read reviews: We have lots of patient reviews on Facebook, Google and Trustpilot.

Social media: You can build a picture of what it's like to be a Care Fertility patient.

The Care Forum: You can see the questions people are asking, and if you want to, you can reach out to others going through the same journey.

Research potential costs and funding packages available: Funding treatment will likely be one of your considerations, and that’s why we've partnered with Access Fertility to make funding the cost of your treatment easier to manage.

Our patient enquiry team:  The team can answer your questions about costs, the IVF process, success rates, waiting times and other important information.

Semen analysis

Before a semen sample is collected, you or your partner, will need to abstain from ejaculation for three to five days.  We analyse every semen sample using various techniques and equipment to determine the quality of the sperm and help to identify any potential issues that could be impacting conception.

 We assess:

  • Ejaculate volume

  • Sperm concentration (number of sperm)

  • Sperm motility (how well they’re swimming)

  • Sperm morphology (their shape, size, and appearance)

  • Presence of white or red blood cells

Blood tests
AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone) testing
The level of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in your blood is used as an indicator of your ovarian reserve and can give us a better idea of how you might respond to IVF treatment. We’ll check your AMH levels through a simple blood test.

Full Blood Count (FBC)

Detects anaemia and assesses overall blood health for infections, platelet numbers and more to ensure your body is ready for treatment and to carry a healthy pregnancy.

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

Checks that your thyroid is functioning correctly to support hormone balance, which is crucial for fertility and pregnancy success.

Glycosylated Haemoglobin (HbA1c)

Screens for blood sugar issues that could affect fertility and pregnancy, such as diabetes or pre-diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes can impact success rates, miscarriage rates and abnormalities so it’s essential to find out pre-treatment.

Vitamin D levels

Our pre-treatment bundle blood tests check for Vitamin D to make sure all our clients have the right levels to increase the likelihood of treatment success, and a healthy pregnancy.

Consultation with a doctor

At your consultation, your consultant will review your medical questionnaire with you and your notes from any previous treatments. They will explain the results of your ultrasound scan and the semen analysis.

You will have the opportunity to talk through your individualised treatment options and ask any questions you have Your clinic team will provide written information and costings for your treatment options.

If we need to carry out any other tests to confirm your diagnosis and appropriate treatment, we'll arrange these for you.

We'll also talk you through what support is available for you, what the next steps will be if you want to have treatment with Care Fertility and answer any questions you might have at this stage.
