WARWICK, UK, [AUGUST 2026]: A pioneering womb lining test will be made available across England, Scotland and Wales to help more women overcome miscarriage and fertility issue, with Care Fertility, the UK’s most trusted fertility specialist, announced as the first provider to offer PRELI before expanding across the UK.

Xambika Biotech has spun out from the University of Warwick and is launching PRELI®, a test that measures signs of a healthy or dysfunctional decidual reaction in the womb lining. The test builds on more than 20 years of research led by Professor Jan Brosens and his team at the University of Warwick and University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust.

The test, developed from analysis of 1,550 endometrial samples, has supported over 1,000 patients through a hospital pilot. However, it has been inaccessible to most women and couples affected by the profound heartbreak of miscarriage and infertility.

With the launch of Xambika, the University has transferred the intellectual property underpinning PRELI to the company, enabling investment in the laboratory, clinical infrastructure and commercial rollout needed to bring the test to routine clinical practice. Care Fertility will be offering PRELI in its London, Manchester, Northampton and Birmingham clinics before the rollout is expanded to fertility clinics across Great Britain.

PRELI: Informed by 20+ years of scientific discovery
Around one in six of all pregnancies are lost, mostly before 12 weeks. While most research has focused on embryo quality, much less was known about the role of the womb lining (the endometrium).

In their most recent study, the biggest of its kind, Prof Brosens and his team analysed over 1,500 biopsies from more than 1,300 women. They discovered:

· If the decidual reaction – the process by which the womb lining prepares for pregnancy – is accelerated, the endometrial tissue transforms too early, making embryo implantation less likely.

· If the reaction is stalled, implantation may occur, but the womb lining may not be stable enough to maintain a pregnancy, which can result in miscarriage.

· These patterns can repeat across cycles far more frequently than expected by chance alone.

Published in Science Advances last year, the study offered new insight into why some women experience pregnancy loss or implantation failure, even with healthy embryos, helping clinicians to identify potential endometrial factors to inform more personalised pre-pregnancy care.

“With PRELI to be made available across three UK nations, it is hoped more women who are undergoing evaluation for fertility issues will be able to receive tailored treatment and go on to have the children they long for[JR3] ,” Johan Remmerswaal, CEO at Xambika, said.

How PRELI works and where it will be offered
PRELI measures biomarkers linked to the decidual reaction, helping doctors to assess whether endometrial dysfunction may be contributing to embryo implantation failure, miscarriage or other fertility challenges.

Care Fertility is the first provider offering PRELI as part of an initial commercial rollout. During this phase, Xambika and Care are working together to validate clinical, laboratory and operational processes before expanding availability to fertility clinics across Great Britain from mid-September.
