Training and expertise
Catrina studied for a Diploma in Midwifery Studies at the University of Surrey and completed all of her clinical training at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. She completed her mentorship training the year after qualifying and has since undertaken specialist training in domestic abuse, child protection, mental health, substance misuse, acute life support, and, in 2021, qualified as a sedationist.
Her experience as a practising midwife has enabled her to support people from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances. She is passionate about providing personalised care, building trusting relationships, and helping patients feel supported throughout their donation journey.
Career
Catrina Shallcross is a Specialist Donation Practitioner working as part of the donation team at Care Fertility. She sees egg and sperm donors to talk them through the donation process and also supports patients using donor eggs, donor sperm, and embryos, explaining the process and preparing them for treatment.
Prior to her midwifery training, Catrina worked as a GP receptionist. She qualified as a midwife in 2007 and began her career at the Royal Surrey County Hospital before moving to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary. In 2010, she fulfilled her ambition of becoming a community midwife before moving into a specialist role supporting women who had experienced domestic abuse. In 2021, she joined Care Fertility.
