Subspecialist Training in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery

Two of our Care Fertility clinics have been accredited by the RCOG to provide subspecialist training in reproductive medicine and surgery.

Care Fertility in Northampton was recently the first independent sector clinic to be accredited by the RCOG to provide subspecialist training in reproductive medicine and surgery. This is in collaboration with the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. The Subspecialty Training Programme Supervisor is Mr Jayaprakasan and the Deputy Programme Supervisor is Dr Alison Richardson.

Care Fertility in Leeds is also an RCOG approved subspecialist training centre and has a reputation for providing exceptional quality training. The current Subspecialty Training Programme is Dr Ellissa Baskind, having recently taken over from Professor Adam Balen, and the Deputy is Dr Susie Jacob.

Why Choose Our Training Programme?

Highly Competitive & Prestigious

Certification process is rigorous, and only a select number of centres are accepted. Application process for trainees is therefore highly competitive.

At Care Fertility, we believe our subspecialty training posts offer invaluable experience, providing trainees with the opportunity to work in the independent sector. As IVF experience is increasingly not available through the NHS, our positions help set trainees up for a successful career in IVF. Our clinics prioritise fertility care and treatment, ensuring access to the latest technology and a quick implementation of evidence-based practices. Additionally, our network of clinics offers exposure to a wide range of treatments including donation, surrogacy and PGT-M/SR, coupled with valuable networking opportunities within the field.

Comprehensive 2-3 Year Training

Covering key areas of reproductive medicine, including:

  • Subfertility & Assisted Conception

  • Reproductive Surgery

  • Menopause & Early Pregnancy

  • Paediatric & Adolescent Gynaecology

  • Research & Innovation in Fertility Treatment

Career Advancement Graduates typically secure roles in leading tertiary referral centres and become key figures in reproductive medicine. Our current trainees in Northampton and Leeds are gaining hands-on expertise in this exclusive programme.

Testimonials

"Prior to this post, all of my medical training had been with the NHS and had no experience in the private sector. I currently undertake the IVF portion of my training in Care Fertility Northampton with Miss Alison Richardson and team. This involves practical procedures including ultrasound, oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer and tubal patency testing. I have also had the opportunity to observe advanced procedures in Care Fertility including surgical sperm retrieval and trans-abdominal oocyte retrieval. I regularly conduct both face to face and virtual consultations with couples- mainly focussing on initial fertility work up and counselling on the process of IVF. I have also spent time with specialist teams including the surrogacy and donation team, Care Fertility genetic counsellors and the PGT team in Nottingham. I have attended organised simulation teaching sessions for ultrasound, TVOR and embryo transfer which were very beneficial for learning procedures. Care Fertility allowed me the opportunity to complete British Fertility Society training modules in ultrasound and IUI/embryo transfer and to attend BFS Study week. I would highly recommend Care Fertility for training. I have been impressed with the willingness of both medical and nursing staff in allowing me to gain as much experience as possible. Every team member has been extremely helpful, inclusive, and have taken time to teach."

When does the course start?

Subspecialty training posts are tightly regulated by the RCOG. We will need to wait for our current subspecialty trainees to complete their training before appointing new trainees. This is anticipated to be in 2027 (Northampton) and TBC (Leeds)
