Biography

GMC reference number: 3518247
Dr Shamim Byrne joined Care Fertility as a Consultant and Fertility Specialist in April 2025. She is an accredited Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and is listed on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register. Dr Byrne has more than ten years’ experience working in senior consultant roles within this field.

After leaving the NHS, she trained in medically assisted conception and has been working in fertility care for the past five years. Alongside her substantive consultant experience, she has developed a strong and in-depth understanding of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, with a particular clinical interest in subfertility, recurrent implantation failure, and miscarriage.

Dr Byrne understands the life-changing impact that subfertility can have and recognises the emotional and psychological burden many patients carry. She is deeply committed to delivering a patient-centred approach, focused on improving patient experience, increasing satisfaction, and easing anxiety at every stage of treatment.

Training & Career

After graduating overseas, Dr Byrne continued her medical training in London, specialising in obstetrics and gynaecology. She became a member and later a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), following her appointment as a consultant in the Midlands.

With more than 25 years’ experience across a wide range of hospital settings, Dr Byrne has worked with diverse patient communities and developed broad-based expertise in general obstetrics and gynaecology. Her career has included managing complex cases and contributing to clinical governance through her role as an expert member of a research ethics committee, where she participated in proportional reviews, virtual sub-committees, and full ethical reviews of research applications.

After leaving the NHS due to health reasons, Dr Byrne began the second phase of her career, retraining in gynaecology and choosing to subspecialise in assisted conception. She has recently joined the Care Fertility team in Tamworth and Birmingham, where she is part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team focused on improving patient outcomes.
