Ruth Arnesen is the Laboratory Manager at Care Fertility Manchester and has been an integral part of the organisation since 2018. She leads one of Care Fertility’s largest laboratories, overseeing a highly skilled team of scientists and support staff dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care.
Training and expertise
Ruth’s interest in reproductive science began during her undergraduate studies in Developmental Biology at the University of Edinburgh, where she developed a fascination with early human development. She began her embryology career at St Mary’s Hospital in Manchester in 2002 and later strengthened her academic foundation through MPhil-level research.
She has extensive expertise in laboratory management, quality management systems, regulatory compliance, equipment validation, and service planning. Ruth has also played a key role in successful Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) inspections, helping ensure laboratory services consistently meet and exceed regulatory standards.
Ruth is deeply committed to education and professional development. She supports the introduction of new techniques and is passionate about training and mentoring future embryologists, helping to develop the next generation of reproductive scientists.
Her distinction in Leadership and Management from the Chartered Management Institute further complements her scientific expertise, strengthening her ability to lead high-performing teams and drive continuous improvement.

With more than 20 years of experience as a state-registered Clinical Reproductive Scientist, Ruth has worked across both NHS and private healthcare settings. Her extensive experience gives her a deep understanding of laboratory operations, clinical excellence, and the vital role embryology plays in supporting successful fertility treatment outcomes.
Alongside her leadership responsibilities, Ruth contributes to Care Fertility’s service development, research, and education initiatives. She is passionate about advancing reproductive science and supporting innovation within fertility treatment.
